“There is nothing in the world so damaged that it cannot be repaired by the hand of Almighty God”, Paul had said. And this Jesus was the key to that repair, the door-way to such restoration.

Tessa Afshar does not disappoint in this fictional, suspenseful depiction of the life of Lydia – the purple cloth merchant of the Bible – and her journey to saving faith in Jesus. The story begins with Lydia as a young girl, working away in her father’s shop making purple dye. Crippled with a fear of failure and haunted by trauma from her past, we see her grow and thrive as she endures heartbreaking betrayal in the company of faith-filled friends. With the loss of a dearly loved family member and constantly battling societal norms as an unmarried female business owner – something unheard of and countercultural at the time – Lydia slowly learns where her true strength comes from. Lydia crosses paths with the devoted Jewish girl Rebekah, and her eyes are opened to a God outside of her cultural traditions. An encounter with Paul introduces her to Jesus, whom she joyfully accepts as the Lord of her life. This outstanding Biblical fiction from Tessa truly brings Lydia and the places she dwelt into life.
